North Eastern Drivig Trials

Practice day report

6 July 2025

The NEDTL Club held a practice Day on 6th July at Feedale Farm near Ripon, which was a great success.

We had 20 participants, of which five were new to driving trials.

Our instructors: Angela Flanagan, Kim Usher and John Wilkinson spent all day giving advice to participants on how they could improve their driving. It was such a success that people have asked for another day.

They did a great job and, despite the changing weather - rain and sunshine, they were still smiling at the end of the very busy long day.

It was great to see some participants bring their young horses/ponies to experience the atmosphere without it being a competition, so that they can be better prepared to compete.

Bill Haddock built a lovely simple cones course that was challenging for both new and open drivers.

Alwin Harrison flagged the tracks so participants could not get lost as they took the opportunity to exercise on lovely undulating farmland that overlooks Ripon.

The landowners are Terry and Elaine Mason and they aways have a big friendly welcome for the Club and cannot do enough to help us run events smoothly.

NEDTL Club work hard to promote carriage driving in the North East and without the commitment of the Committee and members in supporting the Club we would not be able to continue running superb events at lovely locations like Allerton Park, Newby Hall, Escrick Park and Frickley Hall.
