Obituary

Gail Smith

1973 - 2023

23 May 2023

The sport of horse driving trials has lost one if its most enthusiastic supporters.

Gail Smith was a regular volunteer and loved helping at all levels of events. She was also qualified as a BC Cones Judge and an FEI Steward.

Previously, Gail had extensive experience as a rider but she decided to learn how to drive, so that she could improve her judging at events and she was always enthusiastic about trying to get things right.

Gail lived for her driving and her pony Laddie, who was a dream Palomino pony and competing herself was her ambition.

She worked as a veterinary nurse for small animals, often doing long night shifts, but somehow managed to find time to fit in her driving.

Gail had worked in amateur dramatics, creating stage props, a skill that crossed over into her hobby of driving as she had an amazing talent in designing decorations for obstacles which she did for South Wales Carriage Driving Club.

She enjoyed creating different themes for each obstacle and painted them herself with the help of her cats.

Gail loved her driving and always had a huge smile on her face.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
