Eight nations confirmed for the FEI World Para-Equestrian Driving Championships at Sandringham
30 May 2014

Nominations are now in for the FEI World Para-Equestrian Driving Championships being held at Sandringham from Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 June.

Eight nations have declared with four of them fielding teams of three plus individuals – Germany, Netherlands, USA and Great Britain. Belgium, Ireland, Norway and Sweden will be fielding one individual entry each.

As host nation, Great Britain can enter five individuals as well as a team with Germany and Netherlands entering two individuals plus a team; USA will have one individual and a team. At nomination Germany has submitted the names of six para-drivers and will need to drop one at the confirmed entry stage (Friday 20 June).

Team GBR consists of Deborah Daniel, Lindsey Tyas-Paice and Mick Ward with Lucy Barclay, Sue Johnson, Judi Ralls, Margaret Lupton and Sarah Baverstock competing as individuals.

Deborah, Lucy and Mick were in the team that secured Bronze at the 2012 World Championships in Breda when Lindsey drove as an individual.

Last month Deborah and Mick competed in an international para-equestrian competition in Horst, Netherlands, where they finished fourth and sixth respectively. Ahead of them were three of the Sandringham-nominated Netherland drivers – Jacques Poppen, Adriaan Struyk and Aad van Marwijk – with fellow nominee Ingmar Veneman in fifth.

So with strong entries from Germany and USA it will be a real fight for podium places, both in the team and individual event.
